Studying in the United States offers students an incredible range of choices and opportunities. With world-class institutions, innovative programs, and a multicultural environment, the U.S. education system empowers you to make the right decision for your future. At Cyan Solutions, we guide you through every step of your academic journey.
The first level of higher education in the United States is called Undergraduate Study. Students who have completed high school and wish to pursue higher studies can enroll in colleges or universities that offer Associate Degrees (2 years) or Bachelor’s Degrees (4 years) in specific areas of study, also known as majors. While most universities allow students to start without a declared major, they are required to select one by the second year. Students completing an associate degree can transfer their credits to a four-year program to earn a Bachelor’s Degree.
After earning a bachelor’s degree, students can pursue advanced education through Graduate Programs. The first level is the Master’s Degree, usually lasting for two years and offering specialized knowledge in a chosen field. For those seeking further advancement, the Doctorate (PhD) is the highest academic qualification. A PhD typically takes 3 to 6 years to complete and includes intensive research work culminating in a thesis. This demonstrates the student’s research and analytical skills in a specific discipline.
While many programs are conducted on-campus, there is a growing number of accredited online degrees available to students worldwide. These programs provide flexibility, affordability, and accessibility—making it easier for international students to earn U.S. qualifications from anywhere.
Beyond traditional university programs, students can explore non-degree options such as professional certificates, short-term skill courses, and vocational programs. These can help enhance specific career skills and provide industry-recognized credentials.
To qualify for the Master of U.S. Studies, students must hold a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum average of 65% or an overseas equivalent. Applicants without a credit average may be considered for a Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate. Those without a Bachelor’s Degree but with at least three years of full-time relevant work experience may also qualify for a Graduate Certificate.
Students enrolled in Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma programs can articulate into the Master of U.S. Studies. Upon completion of the Master’s program, students may apply for an advanced degree to further their academic profile.
All international students whose native language is not English must provide proof of English Language Proficiency. Accepted tests include:
1. TOEFL: A minimum score of 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 80 (Internet-based) is required. Applicants should aim for at least 20 in each TOEFL subscore. Scores older than two years are not accepted. Use institutional code 4842 and department code 02 when submitting scores.
2. IELTS: A minimum overall score of 6.5 is required, with each band score no lower than 6.0. IELTS reports older than two years are not considered valid.
U.S. universities typically have two main intakes:
1. Fall Intake (August): This is the primary and most popular intake. Applications generally open in November of the previous year.
2. Spring Intake (January): The second major intake, with applications starting from July of the previous year.
3. Summer Intake (May–June): Offered by a limited number of universities, this intake provides fewer program options but is suitable for specific courses or timelines.
